They would have made the playoffs if it was like the way they have it now.

The Phils are actually liked somewhere? I live in NEPA and this is clearly Yankee country here. I often wondered if they had fans outside of philly

The Yankees actually won more regular season games in the 1980s, than any other team. 1981 was their best year in the decade. The Yankees could have won another Championship or two in the 1980s, if they would have kept Reggie Jackson. Imagine a lineup with Mattingly, Jackson, Henderson, and Winfield. Have Henderson bat leadoff, have Mattingly protect Jackson, and bat Winfield 5th. They could have won at least once or twice in the decade.

The Yankees absolutely sucked in the '80s. They were hard to watch and many people did not watch.

Exactly. I would take Mattingly's fielding percentage (.996), which is the highest of all time, over Hernandez's 11 gold gloves.

Oh ok - in that case, I'd rather see Rickey get it.I'm not that up on Yankees baseball - I live in South Jersey and don't see much of what goes on in Yankees baseball - down here, its Phillies country! Try not getting pissy everytime the Phillies are introduced as "Your World Champion Phillies." My ex was an obsessive Phils fan (used to ditch me to watch games), so as you can see, I am not fond of the Phils.

And he was a great player. I just remember him getting injured alot when he played for the Yanks, but I was young when he played for them.Who else was up for the Hall of Fame alongside Rickey?

Why is it that you can't believe that Rickey made the Hall of Fame? He was a great player. He deserved to make it. Even Rickey thinks that Rickey deserved to make the Hall of Fame.

Glory days! The Scooter was a favorite in my house, as was Bobby. Sad days when they died.We met Rizzutto at a local mall here in South Jersey in September 1994 - the day that Jim Abbott pitched the no-hitter. He was talking to my dad for a few minutes - what a nice guy - signed the picture with "Holy cow!" that I presented to him at the signing.

I'm not one of those fans - when I used to go to games, I was one of those rabid female fans. I would love to go to a game, but I haven't exactly dated Yankees fans...or have been able to get tickets in the last five years or so!As for Rickey Henderson...I can't believe he got in the Hall of Fame...
