I always remember that guy in silhouette against the fountain at Lincoln Center. Thought it made him an easy target for muggers. (It was a different world back then.)

I lived in Manhattan for many years and you didn't have roaches if you put boric acid around and the rodents ate the riches so without roaches there were no vermin.

Wow! I haven't seen this in years and years! Thanks for posting it. I remember being stunned, when I saw a reissue of "Gone With The Wind" in a movie theater when I was a teen and realizing that its movie theme was the same one used for the Million Dollar Movie. When I was really young, I remember the MDM repeating the same movie for multiple nights - IIRC, I think that I watched King Kong every night for a week once.

I didn't need to leave those many roach (and some mice) infested apartment's I grew up in in Manhattan. All I had to do was watch WOR and this intro and be content that I lived in the greatest place in the world.....not!LOL, Great intro thanks for posting! NYC, such an overhyped piece of garbage place to live in.

It wasn't just the Roosevelt Island tramway; it was also the indoor promenade of the Citicorp Center and the way the Times Square lights looked (as on the ending shot) which pins this opening as 1976 or '77. (Canadian Club left the Times Square display in 1975.)

Agreed. I was just trying to think of the time frame for this, like mid 70's. I say that b/c I know the Roosevelt Island Tram was built in 1974.

I love this clip. It brought back a lot of memories from when things were going pretty well and life seemed simpler.
