Ok, I'll probably say the original is better, still, they are pretty different.

I will, the original is better because it's a classic goddamn film. It's been 5 years almost and no one remembers Tim Burton's film. It's been nearly 40 and everyone at least knows a reference to Willy Wonk even if they hate it or haven't seen it.

That's actually not true at all, more direct quotes imo, are found in the original version. They're just scattered about more, whereas Burton puts in entire chucks at obvious places. Also most of the bits from the script are completely irrelevant, "Veruca is a type of wart" for example. Why does that need to be in the story? Personally I think the poem would have been much more important.Burton puts no important details from the original version in.

actually although Dahl did write the screenplay David Seltzer (best known for writing The Omen) did an uncredited rewriting putting in most things Dahl didn't put in. And Dahl infamously hated the 71 version. The Depp version isn't much more accurate either. Wonka's backstory wasn't in the book, the ending was changed amongst other things.

I've read both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. I also loved James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, Matilda, and the BFG.

If one was made with the best of both worlds, it would be the greatest movie ever made.
