no Izzard got his ideas from the bible and watching james Mason and living in france and hulicinating lots of monkeys under tables at resturants, then mix it with Monty Python. and then put dresses on him. Put all that together.

"Ivor the Engine" was a British animated series. YouTube member "CharlieCharlie08" has posted Ep. 1 (1958). That line in the song by the Who is probably a naughty reference to "Ivor the Engine".

I remember seeing this episode on TV a few years back. I didn't know who Eddie Izzard was but I thought he was hilarious. For Film and Theatre Styles, what was Ivor the Engine? It reminds me of the song A Quick One (While He's Away) by the Who ("My name is Ivor, I'm a engine driver) but it can't be the same thing.

that's not what i meant. for example, in this show he talks about the Carthaginians going over the alps. In his show Definite Article (iirc) he makes a joke about the Carthaginians. So was he doing this and made a mental note "good idea for joke, develop it later" or did he already write the joke and think "aha, this improvisation will be easy because i already have a joke for this"

No he writes his own jokes.
