actually you cant tell how high you are unless you have your altimeter and a ground elevation map. your altimeter is set to MSL (mean sea level). you need both to determine AGL.

Anything above 500 feet becomes hard to gauge accurately. Look up 'ground rush'

at that height the ground at 700 and 1000 feet would look pretty much the same yet if your altimeter says 1000 thats what youre going to think. either way we werent in the plane so we cant really be sure.

Not how that was meant, Wouldn't the pilot be looking "UP" as he pulls through the top of the loop? Considering that this is what this particular pilot does for a living, and the ground is a constant, would he or wouldn't he be able to tell if something was alittle off about halfway through?

Sorry dude an f16 costs maybe 15 mil. a lot yes, but way cheaper than 40 million. and boardrandomguy, i wish an f22 cost 22million but sadly its more around 150 million. =/

as dabeastsmith said, there isnt really a way to see through the bottom of an f16. And any real pilot always relies on his instruments. They are there for a reason. If i put you in an airplane and took you up and said, "Tell me how high we are" you wouldnt be able to tell me without looking at the altimeter.

Pilot ERROR!!! Improperly set altimeter my ass, the ground is the ground, is the ground! You can't tell me the airforce teaches pilots to fly without looking outside.....as often as Demo-pilots train, they would know what the ground looks like when they're at proper altitude. Relying on instruments is what occurs when you get lazy because you're at the top of the heap....Don't worry, the Blue Angels get their bashings too.

Thunderbirds knock it off! You just crashed a perfectly good airplane because you had the wrong barometric pressure set in the altimeter. It cost 20 to 40 million bucks to get a new one.

yes, that's what I meant, he had his altimiter set wrong so he misjudged how much altitude he had.

Actually, he had his altimeter set for where they practice... He actually thought he was about 800 feet higher than he actually was... He should have seen the discrepancy while he was at the lower end of the maneuver...
