Phil Spector was a musical genius but he became a wormy and warped old man who killed a beautiful woman.

ofcourse there were racism back than. still in some communties there are racist people plenty. yet I feel much change has occured. In the 1980's, I liked a black woman and she told me that because of my skin, we could not be together. so we should not argue if there were racism problems back then but if there is still racism now. People need to be aware of this problem. Now for Ronnettes, they were awsome then and are now when ever I listen to them. Peace you all...

well for the most part, the mainstream radio artists of today make complete shit music, but there are exceptions. some artists are pretty well known even without radio hits/airplay.

"Did anyone from the 60's actually make the most of their musical talent and prosper? Does anyone today prospering actually have musical talent?" This part of your post is a great synopsis. But the girls did not see themselves as "lypsincing to a bunch of white teenagers". That part of your analysis is the result of applying 2009 world views to 1960's events. The girls (Estelle, sadly, passed away on Feb 11) but all of them have said that they look back on those times as wonderful.

I feel so bad for them. If I had that kind of gift back in the day and had to watch myself squash it to lip sync to a bunch of white teenagers... Did anyone from the 60's actually make the most of their musical talent and prosper?Does anyone today prospering actually have musical talent?I think I'm about twenty-five years too old.

I'm not saying there wasn't racism back then- I meant to say that radio listeners and record buyers didn't care- this record reached #2!!!!

Take your head out of the sand. It's funny how when time passes people seem to forget how big a role race played all over this country back then. Even in New York there were neighborhoods that were almost exclusively one race. It wasn't uncommon for those of a different race to be chased out of certain neighborhoods.Even Ronnie herself said that kids in New York would get into arguments whether the Ronettes were Puerto Rican or Black.

This is a great video... Unfortunately, the oound is not the best. But, fortunately, a new poster, a master sound technician, has re-worked the audio and timed it perfectly to the video... Serious viewers must key in this link and see for themselves:Ronettes - Be My Baby - New AudioYou won't be sorry...trust me.

This whole discussion on here would be funny if it wasn't so ignorant! And besides...Obama is considered "black" because he is 50% black... Ronnie, Estelle and Nedra were 1/4 black. In fact, Ronnie and Estelle are 50% white (Irish)...and only 25% black! Even Nedra is 50% Hispanic, and only 25% black! You guys crack me up!

You wanna bet? It mattered very much then. There were plenty of place up here that would not accept blacks as tenants, customers, employees etc. And it didn't matter who you were what you looked like or how much money you had.
