Mesmerizing to watch this performed live, to see all the crazy shit each performer has to do.... especially since this is such an unusual piece, everyone has to pay super fucking close attention to their rhythm and conviction.

I absolutely LOVE Stravinsky's works, especially The Rite of Spring and The Firebird Suite. If you hate it, you hate it. Music is very subjective. No one should be forced to enjoy anything, but all the same, it's annoying to have people rip on such a genius.

When Anikan Skywalker is going to find his mother he arrives to this place where the Sand People live and the music is almost exactly as 3:22 minutes here.John Williams was influenced by a lot of peeps including Stravinsky but especially Gustav Holst.^_^

A century later and you donkeys are still arguing about it...as if Stravinsky might still be just a fluke!

The use of the ostinati, the seemingly imbalanced rhythmic force, the fact that John Williams now makes everyone think we're on Dantooine and the idea that an entire ballet could be based off a somewhat sparse, harshly chromatic score.

It's a long story but one that cannot be reduced to mediocrity and democracy. All pieces were not created equal.

Well, if you're not exposed to a lot of different styles of music you'll never quite understand it, and it'll weird you out.--That was the point. It's a pagan ritual, for goodness' sake. It's all complex rhythms and dissonances with basic melodies...very entrancing. But yeah, be honest with him. It's not your style.

Tell him that you didn't like it because you don't know enough about music to appreciate dissonance and complicated rhythmic structures. He can explain and help you appreciate it then.

Tell him that you don't like it?But I would look at the ballet or the history behind it. Or maybe watch it in Disney's Fantasia. It may make a little more sense there. After all, it was originally meant to be a ballet, so visuals are very important for the impact to be clear. ;D

If you are not studying music as well, then tell your friend the truth. Stravinsky has a very unusual style. And the comment that "nevertheless123" made is not true at all. They are NOT the same if you understand it. A lot of people don't like this piece at all. When it first came out, the public totally hated it. Tell him/her the truth... if he is studying music, then I can promise you he/she will understand. Tell them why you didn't like it.
