That's the thought process behind it, true enough. It's supposed to be the 'party of the people'. In reality, it leads to big government because it is a system in which the government takes care of all your needs and controls your assets.

There's also anarcho-communism and libertarian-socialism ideals, which are similar.I think that most communist supporters oppose government.
