I think the saying holds true in certain cases, depends on the situation. When it comes to gaming I think it's true, because people ASSUME it's childish, or pointless, because they have biased preconceptions. People tend to judge a book by it's cover way too much in this world...Just my opinion though :)

As much as I love gaming, I don't agree with the philosophy that you can't understand or critize something until you've tried it. It gets used a lot in political arguments and is a bit of a fallacy IMO. A common one is that you can't critize religion unless you've been a church goer all your life. Awesome video nonetheless, really needed to be made for the naysayers out there.

people could easily develop a resource management game much like the original r. buckminster fuller "world game" and make it so that we would be managing actual funds to actual projects in the world. that way we could accomplish interesting things in the world.

why can't there just be a game where you don't have to leave your "sucky life", which is what tributes like this assume.

i have to agree with jonathan blow's comments about this vid (look it up, im sure you'll find what i'm referencing), in that while escapism is good for a "quick fix" every now and then, i wouldn't like it to be in every game. games are "super major kickass" today, i know, but stuff like this troubles me because too many gamers tend to live for this kind of thing (or at least that's my perception of other gamers).

I think this was a very nice love letter to games :) You might be right about games being just another creative medium, although I think it is the crown of art. Guess time will tell... Anyway, for the games that are made for the player, I think you captured the essence of gaming. To experience all those emotions and to have FUN! :)
