Renderman $3-4,000, Maya to model and texture in yet another $3-4,000. Lets add in your education coss to learn how to do HALF of what Pixar does. $60k+. Nothing worth while is free bud. Blender3D is a nice toy, if you want quality, learn the industry and trade.

Too bad renderman does't work with FREE apps.Learn the skills most of us in the industry have, don't waste time thinking you're going to TEACH youself. Just learning the shaders of mental ray would scare most off, unless you are totally serious about it.
