Goguryeo is never a part of Korean history, when most of those gogureans were deported to Henan and southern part of China,though some escaped to Japan. modern day chinese with family name, Gao were those people;s offsprings. It is highly possible in his early days he was prsonally invovled in battle. All Qin people are fierce fighters, it's part of thier culture to fight. So, of course, he would've been exposed to all that.
