The thing is, I actually cannot remember. I realized after I posted it that I should have provided a source for such a claim. I should have said, "I remember hearing somewhere that..." Now I'm wondering if a Cure fanboy army will be at my house with torches. I'm intrigued by bands that use what I call a wall of minimalism. By that I mean that each part is incredibly simple but, when put together, those simple parts make a dynamic landscape of sound.

One of Robert Smith's techniques is to record a minimalist guitar part and then tune the guitar slightly sharp and record the same part again. The effect is much better than what any chorus pedal could achieve. There's an organic quality to the slight oscillation that makes the part really stand out.
