I've been searching for this song for 20 years....I have it on a cassette, taped from an FM station and KNOWING it sounded like The Cars but never being able to track it down. Thanks to this video, I just ordered The Cars Anthology off Amazon and will finally have this song on cd. Thanks!!!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the club they're playing in at the beginning of the video is The Rat, in Boston, around '78 or '79. I love 3:07-3:10, when The Cars are riding on the carousel behind Ric. Classic!

Such an eccentric sound. Maybe that's why it wasn't one of their more popular singles. I like though. I like it quite a bit.

Breakaway was a b-side release in 1984 on a 45. The a-side was Why Can't I have You.

This is a really underrated b-side song by the Cars, I like how they ventured from their New Wave/power-pop sound to a more Synth-Pop sound in this song sound, like Human League, Depeche Mode etc. My favorite aspect of the cars sound was their use of synths/keyboards. However Elliot Easton is a great guitarist despite the synths.

congratulations on a very well executed labor of love -- of a song that i happen also to love... AND it inspires me to put together in the spirit of love, and in my forte genre, the written word, something that's just as well-calibrated, and send it to ric as an overture fan appeal for him to initiate and lead a creative reunion with greg, elliot and david... there's a tremendous back stock of ric's solo pieces since 87 on many of which elliot's lead/solo contribution would turn into true hits
