To abort her is what would've been cruel, but she shouldn't have called her a "mortal sin" either. HER mortal sin, was sleeping with a (married) man who was not married to her. I'm only 18 but I'm a huge classic movie fan and I've done my reading on Loretta and Clark. I read Judy's book. What a sad story. :(

I don't think it was cruel. After all that girl was born and she is so beautiful, a mix of Loretta and Clark. I am proud of what she did. And the fact that there was no problem with that is that scene.

That way nobody would be none the wiser about her unexpected pregnancy and that she'd given life to an illigetimate child.

Loretta Young, despite her devout Catholicism, had a number of affairs with some of her leading male co-stars. Loretta was not expecting the pregnancy after her affair with Gable. Being such a popular star she could not admit to this due to the risk of her reputation being ruined and being a devout Catholic she could not have the baby aborted. So instead, she took a nine month "holiday" at her summer house in Venice and after she had the baby she sent it to a Hollywood Orphanage and adopted her.

If she was going to feel thagt guilty about it, why did she do it in the first place, Why did she have the affair? Well, Clark would have probably been hard to resist..

Yes, it was. Judy didn't learn that Gable was her biological father until the point of her marriage and when she comfronted Loretta about it, she promptly vomited and said, "Yes, your a walking mortal sin." Judy and Loretta didn't talk for many years after that, but they were able to rekindle their relationship before Loretta died from cancer in the summer of 2000. Judy Lewis was known, as still is, as "Hollywood's Best Kept Secret".

Actually, the man said "fathering" not bothering. You see in 1935, when Clark Gable and Loretta Young starred in "Call of the Wild", they had an affair and Young became pregnant.Young took a leave of absense and gave birth to a little girl named Judy. Upon the birth, Young had the child put in an orphanage and eight months later, she adopted the little girl she put in. To hide the fact that she was Gable's child, Young pinned the girl's large ears back and the studio covered up the scandal.
