The SR-71 is one of kind. I think of it like the 56KW THX at the Empire Leicester Square. Id like to see Final Approach the film that has an SR-71 in it. The lows on the mix are fantastic when the afterburners start-up.There are been a few films where the SR-71 is depicted. D.A.R.Y.L. and Final Approach, or are there few more films?

And the Lockheed project managers of the day were highly efficient.

What I find most amazing is how litle time it took to built a unique aircraft how low the cost was. Compare it with billions Locheed charges now to built planes and they always behind schedule... I had actually saw employees playing domino during working hours at Locheed warehouse in CA. ....

The landing at 4:01 actually vibrated the fuselage and tail. I wonder how rough the landing was, or whether the plane's just flexible.

To comment about some " commentary below" , even today the true top speed of SR71 remains secret, and it's for a good reason;)

The US military doesn't have a habit of decommissioning equipment if they aren't working on something to replace it, that is unless they already have it! Case in point, the B-2 and the F-117 bombers.

my grandfather was one of the engineers who made this plane, and my father and mother on others like this, they all worked for Lockhead and things they talk about are just amazing.

I'm not arguing semanitcs. I'm saying that the whole decommissioning thing was just a cover story.

All these high tech planes and equipment that the Military Industrial Complex produces using US tax payers dollars should go right back to the people. This plane should be at Disney Land taking people up for rides...
