A stick of dynamite or a cuboid of explosive is still effectively a point source. When you throw different shaped rocked into a lake the ripples are always circular.

Sorry, I didnt make my reply clear enough.I do agree its not the car, but I was saying that the explosives themselves wont be a point source. Not sure what sort of explosives they are using, but I was guessing it was probably that cubiod shape pack under the car.

Think you need to reread what I wrote. I'm sure you'd agree the explosive causing the car to "blow up" is a point source. I don't think it's the car itself exploding causing the shockwave but the explosives within which IS a point source.

is it a point source? surely it would be a cuboid shaped source? Not that Id expect a perfectly square shockwave either ;)Too bad this isnt in higher res to get a closer look.

What's irregular about the source? It's not the car exploding that's causing the shockwave but the high explosives under the car which IS a point source. I don't think the structure of the car has much of an effect in attenuating the shockwave.

I must admit, I just cant work out why youd get a perfectly elipse shaped shockwave ripple from a real explosion :-/Not saying its fake, just that I dont understand how it can be so regular,is there some physics effect that makes ripples into regular shapes from highly irregular sources?

Where was this car bomb footage taken from? Was this security camera footage or a staged event or what?

no, you cant actually. what your thinking of is just a medium that the soundwaves move. for example, if you hold a candle infront of the subwoofer, then play some happy hardcore, or something with a big loud beat, you will see the fire move according to the song, as if it were dancing. just like you cant see wind, but you can see its effects if you hold a piece of paper up, and it flies away. why the dislike?

, its the extremely hot air being pushed away, the way you see a flimmering over a fire, just the explosion propelling this in an even manner.
