When Shea was full, it was probably the loudest place on Earth. It definintley has a place in my memories forever.

Hey Cabstronaut, I actually have a photo of Mettle taken out there by the parking lot fence (lol). And, to O2Hat, you're right, those orange and blue panels were definitely Shea's best look, and who can forget that huge white scoreboard! They ruined everything with that blue paint in the '80s.

Carl the Signman, The Black Cat, Bill Shea...classic stuff! Great work and thank you, metsny.

What makes me mad is all of these beautiful old ballparks (Shea, Three Rivers, Veterans,) are all being torn down just so that all these companies can build stadiums with their name on them just so they can make a quick dollar. It sickens me.

My cousin got us tickets to the press level ( around 1965) i sat next to Monty Irvin, he introduced himself to me ( i was 10 years old) and was nicest guy you would ever meet ,also remember seeing strawberry hit a walkoff and as we walked down the ramp to go home everyone chanting "daryll","daryll","daryll'. Also sat next to Your Fathers Mustache Band behind the mets dugout, they played their bangos. I will always miss shea, I cant get into Citi Field, nice to see others feel the same as me

great video. I was there when rose fought buddy and i ran out onto the field after they beat the Reds, i ran toward the reds dugout and sparky anderson was standing there with a couple of other reds with bats in their hands ready to hit anyone who entered the dugout ,no one did. I also watched a game standing behind home plate ( it was around 1968 - 1972) i turned and noticed Broadway Joe standing next to me , he watched the game for about 2 innings, i said hello. -enjoyed the other comments

Never been there. Interesting to see this video and read the comments. It's the people and their goings-on that really gives a building a soul and brings it alive. Somehow, I wish I could've been there.

I was at the first game played at Shea. Jack Fisher against the Pirates. Look at the Pirates' lineup that day and you can guess how it went. I was at the fifth game of the 1969 World Series when Cleon got hit on the foot and the umpire didn't believe him until Gil Hodges came out of the dugout and showed the ump the stain on the ball from Cleon's shoe polish. They used to give free tickets if you clipped coupons from Dairylea milk cartons. I saw a Nate Colbert HR hit a bus in the parking lot.

Shea definately provided us with alot of good memories. Although Citifield is nice, it is still to soon to call it home. I wonder what it would be like if the Mets had a good team? Would the fans be stuffing their faces with food or would they be sitting in their seats watching the game? Time will tell.

I know a couple of people didn't like Shea, but like you guys who are commenting on this video, me and my brother liked Shea. Yes, Citi Field is awesome, but hey, in 2008, Shea Stadium and the original Yankee Stadium, staples in the history of baseball, were closed forever. They were both great stadiums and they will be missed.

When the wrecking balls decended upon Shea it was like a dagger going through my heart. All the great memories of Shea Stadium, the invigorating Mets victories, losses... and the shear excitment of the truly Miracle Season of 1969... Seaver's near perfect game against the Cubs, Cleon Jones' shoe polish ploy, the sweep of the Braves in the first year of playoffs, Swoboda and Agee's great catches in the World Series... nothing will ever compare to that year. Shea will live forever in our memory
