Genocide means a determined attempt to kill a certain ethnic group, but of course a certain number have to be killed for it to constitute 'genocide'. When the Hutus killed 800000 Tutsis, there was debate about whether to call it 'genocide' or not - although that was for political reasons, with the major powers wanting a moral get-out clause not to get involved in the massacre. (E.g. if it wasn't genocide, they wouldn't need to).

Noo, listen, the events of 1915-1918 are what we consider as genocide. I know that Armenians have killed Turks, and I accept it. It wasn't genocide, but I do accept it happening. I also know there was a war during 1920. But what we as Armenians are trying to get across is that the time period of 1915-1918, what happened to the Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians was genocide. Now, I don't know as much about the Armenians that killed, so I'm willing to learn if you're willing to teach. Thank you.

Haha well, dude, I don't hate Turks so much as other Armenians, so I can take a joke. But out of all seriousness, it was genocide. The man that created the term genocide, Raphael Lemkin, (I dunno if I spelled it right), had the idea of creating it because of what the Turks did to Armenians and finally came up with the word after having his family killed in the Holocaust.
