I'll add my opinion. I prefer Snow Patrol's performance. I like the instrumentation better. (I love a good piano as in Leona's, but for this song I like the massive entrance of additional instruments as the song progresses - great movement & power & energy.) I also like his voice better. It may be subdued, but to me, that gives the subtly and emotion more impact. Her version is dramatic, which overkills it.

Is he leaving for something dangerous (war?) and they may not see each other again? He'll always be near and she's so sad she can hardly speak. Snow patrol's is good. But I have to admit Leona brings the emotion to match the lyrics, which are actually quite emotional as well as inspirational. He sings it a little deadpan. Yes, even to his own song. And the choir suits the 'hope' message . Leona 9, Snow Patrol 8. Sorry SP fans.

I must say I prefer Snow Patrol's version. The ORIGINAL one. Leona's feels like it's full of too much effort and ruins it for me :/
