The reference to a solicitor related to the fact he was going to tweak Plectrum. Tweaking would have involved twisting a part of his body (probably an ear to cause pain. Corporal punishment if deemed excessive could have resulted in the boy seeking the services of a lawyer (solicitor).

Well, the jokes about Plectrum were about its definition. Plectrum basically is a pick for a guitar, but it also means a part in an animal which looks like a guitar pick a.k.a. plectrum.One of the meanings for solicitor is a person to have sex with in exchange for money.
