To be a Christian simply means that you believe in Jesus Christ as the Messiah. Whether you believe in the bible as the word of God, whether you believe in the virgin birth, whether you believe in the trinity is not part of being a Christian. Itd 1000 you should not argue so hard that only people who believe your way are Christian. The virgin birth and the trinity have not always been the standard for Christianity so accept rather than argue.

that was the larger point he was making. He was saying what if someone were to come to you and make the arguments you sited against the virgin birth..... He wasn't making those arguements

ltd1000. A lot of the quotations that you bring up that Rob Bell has written are in his book Velvet Elvis, as I am sure that you know. The part you quoted about the virgin birth is followed by this paragraph:I affirm the historic Christian faith, which includes virgin birth and the Trinity and the inspiration of the Bible and much moreHis point in bringing up the virgin birth was to work through and wrestle with your faith in God constantly. That process allow faith to be internalized

and my final comment on this...like i said, i got more stuff if anyone wants to read...i will probably make a video to post here on youtube...but here's my final quote from RB..." This is part of the problem with continually insisting that one of the absolutes of the Christian faith must be a belief that "Scripture alone" is our guide. It sounds nice, but it is not true. When people say that all we need is the Bible, it is simply not true." RB.......this is NOT Christianity

like i said before...its not about hating, but when you try to take biblical teachings, Christian fundamental beliefs...then stop calling yourself a Christian..the virgin birth of Jesus is essential in Christianity...Jesus didnt come to set a kingdom on the earth, but a heavenly one as the Bible explains....but yet rob bell believes different, ."The goal of Jesus isn't to get into heaven. The goal is to get heaven here." RB

Could a person keep on jumping? Could a person still love God? Could you still be a Christian? Is the way of Jesus still the best possible way to live? Or does the whole thing fall apart? If the whole faith falls apart when we reexamine and rethink one spring, then it wasnt that strong in the first place, was it? (rob bell)....OK, sorry its a little out of order but it came like that cause of the limit of words...i have more stuff, pm me and i'll send you a blog post i wrote about it

But what if, as you study the origin of the word virgin you discover that the word virgin in the gospel of Matthew actually comes from the book of Isaiah, and then you find out that in the Hebrew language at that time, the word virgin could mean several things. And what if you discover that in the first century being born of a virgin also referred to a child whose mother became pregnant the first time she had intercourse? What if that spring were seriously questioned?

What if tomorrow someone digs up definitive proof that Jesus had a real, earthly, biological father named Larry, and archeologists find Larrys tomb and do DNA samples and prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the virgin birth was really just a bit of mythologizing the Gospel writers threw in to appeal to the followers of the Mithra and Dionysian religious cults that were hugely popular at the time of Jesus, whose gods had virgin births?

It is a real disappointment to see some "in the name of God", find certain words or text and use it against the teachers loving attempt to spread the good news. I believe the Pharisees did the same with Jesus. Paul and Peter even argued amongst themselves about doctrine, but they both were on the same mission. This is why the world is turning its back on Christianity. Please wake up.

if you don't like the video, make your own. better yet read your bible, and repent for being critical. STOP HATING. Love the bride of Christ, regardless of HER form, function, presentation.

Agreed, Alot of his videos have hit me in a very specific way. Something I have come to realize is a video or teaching by is just a teaching or video, but with the holy spirit it can become a huge life changing thing. It doesn't matter if some translation is wrong or if a specific fact about something is incorrect. If that is what your focusing on then your really missing out on the purpose of this video and the impact that it can have on your life!

Well if you thought that was a tone, I am sorry. But I did not quote it out of the book word for word because there is simply not enough text room. That is why I put the page number so one could look it up on their own. I know what I am talking about and the bible is very clear that the world was created perfect and it is now in a state that it is"deteriorating" because of sin, heading towards chaos. Not the other way around which is the belief that Rob holds, which is out right wrong.

Are you saying he used that word on page 63? You haven't provided any context here... at all. That makes this a misquote. This is the kind of thing I'm talking about, you can't pull one line from one page and say "he's a blasphemer!" I'm not saying your wrong, but I'm saying you have provided 0 explanation or context as to why he used the word chaos and how that makes him wrong. And there is no need for the tone.

misquotes really? hmm what about on page 63 found in Sex God? Rob states that the world was created in chaos.. wow really.. hmm lets look at that hebrew word he uses.. tohu va vohu. first he uses the wrong word, it is really tohu va bohu.. look it up. He tries to pull it out of Genesis 1:2 but of course he couldn't tell you that cause that only makes too much sense. He uses it wrong, it doesn't translate as "wild and waste" it translates directly, "formless and empty" God sad he created ...

Rob Bell is anointed. He could, if he wanted, spout out scripture verse upon scripture verse, but that is what every other preacher is doing right now. This entire teaching is also supported in the Book of Acts 16: 32-34. Rob Bell doesn't need to connect the dots for me, I can connect my own dots. His teachings aren't for Christians who are still being fed the milk of the word, but for those who prefer meat. I love Rob Bell's teachings - they are probes like the writings of Marshal McCluhan.
