Sure, there may by other ways to do something, but there is no one answer to all situations. Thanks photoshopmama for a very informative tutorial. I would say an extraction would be much better than a lasso, but how would you get the shadows? How does you lasso get the shadows?

Maybe and maybe not. Like I said it doesn't work with all images. If your bride has a white dress and the background is white, this particular technique won't work.

I contacted Dave and understandably he is not going to release his image. Surely you can find a similar one with a model on a white backdrop to experiment with this on your own.

Sure use the lasso if you see this as too complicated. It is creating a more accurate selection than is attainable with the lasso. Plus there's never just ONE way to do something. I try to cover ALL things available in Photoshop in my vids. This helps folks understand concepts and function and goes a bit deeper than just the lasso tool.

why do you complicate things?you could select just the girl with the lasso tool,invert area and paint everything in blue,or even more..,take the girl-layer from its context and put it in other picture!it works just perfect!
