you mean pre-1950, and Paramount held on to some of their films from that era, never coming under Universal ownership (examples are "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek" and "Sorry, Wrong Number")And as for the Wolper, WB got the better part, as Willy's popularity would grow in later years (leading to WB doing a non-musical remake in 05), and Kotter would appear in an episode of the WB-produced Drew Carey Show in 1998

In the late 1940's, Paramount and Warner Brothers sold the rights to most of the films (pre-1949) to different owners. Warner Brothers has long since bought the the rights to their pre 1949 movies, while Universal Studios owns most of Paramount's Pre 1949 films. Though I've Paramount has gotten back the rights to their some Pre-1949 films as well.
