what is terrorism? there is absolutely no difference between an airliner crashing into a building and a cruise missile doing the same. there is no terrorism. there is only war. simple as that. wars are not defined by uniforms or official statements in the UN. a war ca be carried out by a vast amount of different methods. with or without violence. economic, political, informal or with guns and rockets. all of that is terrorism.

@kevinnorthern You have a valid point, but you make a big mistake when you bundle all terrorists together into one group. No doubt the leadership of some groups, Bin Laden himself included, wants a religious war. The research shows however that their support and recruits come from people who have suffered under western oppression (support for Hussein, the shah and so on). The fact that terrorist recruitment has increased greatly after the Iraq war would seem to support this.

I don't get the 30 years comment. While typical of Chomsky to rain on a liberal's smug staisfaction that the Republicans will get their due and cook in hell, it doesn't reflect reality. US has experienced many economic and ideological booms in the past 30 years.

Right. And the Israelis that bulldoze people's homes with tanks and bombs in Palestine aren't terrorist at all. Give me a break. The U.S. and Israel have killed WAY MORE PEOPLE than terrorist. What does that make them? "These are 1 kiloton bombs the size of golf clubs, kill up to a 100,000 in a city." Oh really? How many have US and Israeli forces killed in the middle east? By your logic that means the U.S. and Israel are the biggest terrorist on the planet.

"The only thing America can do is abandon this irresponsible foreign policy that is the reason why terrorists exist in the first place". As bin Laden told Time magazine in a 1998 interview, acquiring weapons ''for the defense of Muslims is a religious duty. If I have, indeed, acquired these [nuclear, biological, or chemical] weapons, then I thank God for enabling me to do so.'' Pretty sure terrorists exist cuz they are crazed religious fanatics, to each his own opinion though.

A baseball sized neutron bomb is capable of killing off several blocks of people. The U.S. spies were able to purchase 3 mini-nukes known as RA115 and RA116 from Ukraine. These can be carried in a suitcase, 700 of them were manufactured in the Soviet Union. Russian sources admit they have lost at least 100 of these. These are 1 kiloton bombs the size of a set of golf clubs, kill up to 100,000 in a city. You obviously never seen a neutron bomb.

that scenario happening. The only thing America can do is abandon this irresponsible foreign policy that is the reason why terrorists exist in the first place. The longer the U.S. is in Iraq and Apfganistan and Pakistan and as long as innocent civilians die from American bombs there will always be plenty of terrorists willing to kill themselves in order to get revenge.

No that is completely false a neutron bomb although not as big as a 2 story house is at least 100 times bigger than a baseball. I've seen pictures of it and believe me it a very big weapon the type that would require at least 4 people to lift so obviously you've never seen a neutron bomb. That's not to say that a terrorist cant somehow create a smaller version of it that could be as big as a baseball but oit obviously won't do that much damage and there really isn't anything anyone can do about

Also note that the ingredient required to make neutron bombs is relatively easy to get, is cheap and also is already circulated through teh black market of the world.
