I think Julie Andrews has a wonderful voice and a wonderful talent, she COULD sing better....but I think Marni Nixon did a SUPERB job at the songs and no one could match her acting, my personal opinion.

That maybe be...I have always heard Julie Andrews in interviews say that Audrey told her "You (Julie) should have done it, but I didn't have the guts to turn it down." They were actually very good friends in real life. Which is why I don't understand all these Audrey fans getting so bent out of shape...she is an extraordinary actress but this was not the perfect role for her. It deserved to go to someone you could sing the songs like Julie Andrews

From what I've read Audrey refused the part initially but only agreed when a third person (not Julie or Audrey) was being considered for the part.
