Van was unquestionably wrong, shouldn't have crossed double solid lines. Driver's ED 101. However, IMO the bike was going a little fast placing himself at a higher risk.

The van performed an illegal lane change. The reason why bikes can lane split is because cars can't do what the van did you imbecile.

Nice try, rollandkirby. Double yellow line in CA legally represents a SOLID WALL. Blinker or not, those lines are not to be crossed and the fine is very high to discourage it. Did elrob act foolishly? Maybe. But legally, he did nothing wrong. Poor judgment isn't against the law.

You should have been at fault, you can clearly see the guys blinker. How was he to know there was a douchebag doing 45mph while lane splitting. It wasnt like he just whipped out, you could see him a quarter mile ahead.

I've been lane splitting for 20 years. Never had a problem. Never had an incident or accident. There is nothing wrong with lane splitting. Its not illegal ... and if you're on a small vehicle, as long as you're smart about it, there's no harm done.

How does it cost all of us money if elrob20 gets paid? It costs the dumbass IN THE VAN money, dumbass. The rider rear-ended the van? Clearly the rider was side-swiped.There are other reasons, besides great mpg, why lane splitting/riding a motorcycle is legal...less traffic congestion, less pollution, makes parking easier, less materials used in making a vehicle, reduces dependence on foreign oil, economical transportation, ect, ect...please, take back your two cents beeyatch
