We tend to think of our grandparents' (or great grandparents') era as tame by comparison, but the "Roaring Twenties" were anything but. The Great War was so horrible and different from life in the preceding century that people gave up the idea that life and God had any significant relevance so they went at it full tilt and with no holds barred. The things you see in the Silent Era and thereabouts will change your perspective on that period.

1930's was a lot more open and broadminded then people today think. Especially before the second world war and before the Hollywood industries started with all its censor and rules... but in the beginning of the 30's the Hollywood pictures were more european and international in it's style.

Performing this scene took a lot of courage, from all the film crew and cast. In 1930, this could have been a "jobless" sentence for everybody.

Leave it to vonSternberg..the gasps and raspberries at her entrance started a revolution in women's fashions worldwide. From the tux, women started wearing slacks; from slacks to pant suites. Hillary Clinton would be proud. And it all started with Marlene and this clip from "Morocco" I was there, folks!

and don't forget Gary Cooper, here. His face in his first close-up. His face her self is actually pure movie. You must see him in a couple of movies by Lubitsch: one with Jeanette Mc Donald and the other with the great, besides all Dietrich's friend, Claudette Colbert. They had not only talent but faces with it sculpted on.I loves you Porgy..... dont let him take me... don't let him handle me...
