if your pit bull has been in a tensioning interaction with other dog, no matter if it's a well behaved dog, that's the point of no return: he will want to fight. After that happened, the only safe thing to do is to prevent your pit bull from contacting other dogs. Cage it, leash it, put a bozal on his damn mouth. Otherwise, be ready to face the consequences of having a fighting machine incapable of acting like a normal dog. That's just how they are.

pitbulls are bred fighting dogs, it is something in them, to ignore this fact just because your dog is well behaved is careless. i love apbt's and do believe alot is down to their owners, but everytime something like this happens we cant just unfairly keep saying blame the owner because there has been cases when well behaved apbt attacked unprovoked. any dog can bite but the apbt has this inbred trait in its bloodline and history. we cant keep being negligent and ignoring this fact.

I guess they never thought aboutkicking the dog under the jaw? My friends pitbull got into a fight at the dog park... not his fault... the dog attacked first but he wouldn't let go and we kicked em under the jaw and he released and just ran the other way. We didn't have to kick him hard. Poor dog.

hitting the dog with the dish didn't help. what makes the owner think water hoses would have stopped the dog.

I'm really sorry that the pit bull had to be shot, but this is an obvious case of the home owner defending his own dog. I have rescued many pit bull dogs and know they are simply dogs...really strong terrier dogs, but dogs nontheless. If any animal comes up to or into my fenced in yard and attacks my animals, I would also shoot. I would be crying and sickened by having to do it, but I have a responsibility to keep my own animals safe. I hate seeing things like this.

In Australia pit bulls have had bad press too, they considered banning the breed. Now owners are held responsible for their dogs actions, people have been charged with man slaughter because their dog attacks.

some people get pitbulls to show their macho side and so it's no mystery as to why this happens. pitbulls can be good pets if brought up right but otherwise they do have it in them to be aggressive as you cannot deny the science of breeding. Breeding is what makes a beagle track scents, a whippet run sprints, etc .... Yes, other dogs do attack but the consequences are different.
