Note that the first time she sings the chorus, she ends the line with "mama said" NOT "my mama said." That is the only time she says it w/o "my" except in the fade out at the end.

I'm certainly no expert, I am however, a big oldies fan & a huge admirer of all nostalgia.Having said that, let me add that as a general rule(with possibly 2 or 3 exceptions),any original version of a song is usually the best. In this case& for me (having just listened to the other version),the general rule applies.Dionne's ride is nice & cute - more for the visual effect, while The Shirelles' packs punch with soul & harmony for the listener. The start of the song alone transforms you. Peace !

You know, you make a great point. I forget it's not just us old guys out here listening to this stuff. If I was a Teen, I'd probably prefer Dionne's version, too. Like I said above, she's talented for sure. I still say she should have had better backup singers. LOL! Take care.

Are you fricking kidding me? She's cute, and has a great voice, but you think this is better than than this original version!? I guess we agree to disagree. The backgound vocals on Dionne's version are awful. But that is the beauty of music; there is something for everyone's taste, and you can always have you own opinion. Help me out fellow oldies fans!
