You know it's sad that Old Orleans had looters left and right, murders, raping, bitching about where's my check. You don't see anything close to that from this disaster. And you don't see Hollywood saying George Bush hates Iowa and it was all a conspiracy. Sad to say most of society will forget about this in a week or two. And if you think Nobama cares about working class people...where was he when all this flooding happened? But black nonworking and working class gets noticed. pshhhhh

Once again there you go flapping your jaw without knowing a thing! I can tell you that this doesn't compare to 93. Sure the rivers got out in places, but they were nothing to this extent. If you were also to look on a map most of the mid west is technically considered a flood plain. So tell me Einstein where should everyone live...Montana...sorry on top of a super volcano, California...earthquakes, Florida...hurricanes, Oklahoma/Texas...tornado alley??? THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK

Levees are NOT natural. More and more of them have been made over the years to block the river from going into it's ( yes natural) flood plains. It is then FORCED to follow the same path it has as a river with NO ROOM to ever swell its banks. THATS how you get major flooding in what id NOW settled areas

to MasterMark123...natural swelling??? Is that what you're calling it. Another great example of someone speaking of something they know nothing about! My family has lived in the area for over 100 years and there is no one who has EVER seen flooding to this extent. I wouldn't exactly call this "natural swelling"

MobergNixon...You're an idiot...have you ever been to any of these flooded places? As I previously posted most of these people live MILES away from the nearest levee. I am not sure about Lawrence County, but in Jasper the highest elevation is only 675 feet or so above sea level. This is something that happens frequently. As a matter of fact this is something that no one who lives there has ever seen. Speaking before thinking should also be outlawed.

It's too late in the season to replant. By early July the corn is usually at least 4 feet high. Get ready for more high prices...

Not sure if this thread has had any of these lurkers but..I love when people say that Trials and Tribulations is upon us. Its so easy to excuse away reality with religion but those of us not living with our heads stuck up our asses call it global warming. So when you drive your Yukon XXXXL (formerly known as a school bus) to church every week to pray for the trials, how about you pray for a president that wants to solve this problem.

Petra, I thank your husband for his service to this great nation and thank you for your honesty. You are obviously not the welfare junkies I'm talking about! As a proud citizen of LA, you know how corrupt the city & state gov't are there. They have enslaved a large portion of the population to socialism and rendered them useless while pissing away the money taken from hard working people like you. Save your indignation for the overlords and sluggish chaff of the "big easy". I'm not the problem.

these folks need to understand that building so many levies and trying to force rivers through a series of narrow straights and building on natural flood plains will bring hardships when the rivers do their natural swelling.

We suffered and People are still suffering ! Like I said before ; I hope you never have to go through anything like Katrina or the Floods in the Heartland. We worked all our life's .My Husband served his Country for 22 Years in the Military.

To be honest, I never knew how bad we had it until after Katrina. Other states have way better oppurtunities than LA. If it wasn't for my job and home, I would leave. Well hope you have a great day Nikola.

A lot of ppl don't have cars. every corner in the city have a bus stop. I was only stuck for a day after, but you ./;had ppl stuck for more then a week. No food, help, or anything. So looting was the only option for some ppl.

LOL @ TJLAWSON20. No, they are helping each other with the sand bags and everything. We didn't have that down here. It was so different. We had looters, police, swat, national guard not helping us. I was stuck down here due to my job. Did you know what one of the swat members told me after I asked for help because one of my co-workers was having a heartatache ( deceased now) We can't help ourselves. PPL looked at looting more then the reality.

so5044life, Every word I typed is absolutely true. While your situation is sad, it is largely anectdotal. Will you sit around and wait for someone to hand you some money? I doubt it. You'll get up, adapt and probably be better for having overcome such a hardship. So why would you tolerate any less from your neighbors? The fact is that too many people in NO simply don't know how to care for themselves because they were never expected to. So they remain dependant upon their government masters.
