with an ethnically diversified political body. for "some" people, pride comes from having members of your own group in high places

In a society where tribal belonging is important, naturally, as a member of a specific tribe, you want your "people", meaning your fellow tribesmen to attain national political hegemony.Of course not all Kikuyus are rich and powerful but as a Kikuyu, i'd be proud, because they are running sh.., simple observationWe all want power, national interests are secondary. There has to be an equal sharing of political power among all ethnic groups of Kenya, like in Benin for example.

Tribal diversity can be a source of mutual enrichment. The tribes of Kenya can learn a lot from each other. In fact, I don't know if there is a long-term solution. Politicians will always instrumentalize tribal affiliations to either stay in power or to come to power.Lastly, if the country is dominated, politically and economically by members of specific ethnic groups, other ethnic groups will always feel "oppressed", neglected and inferior

That's what it all boils down to: "political and economic power" and politicians use tribalism as a means to win political power. The struggle for economic/political power is at the heart of every conflict. Also, very often, tribal/ethnic conscience and belonging take precedence over national conscience and belonging. However, the interests of the nation must always come before any personal, ethnic or tribal considerations. The solution doesn't reside in the eradication of tribalism

it is important that we remember that presidents are birthed our of a situation. and from the little that i heard if some of the others were president it would be the same or worst. what births a certain mentality thru out africa in this day. we must note. for it is not an old way of african thinking as we often have it fed to us. africans massacres and the like. hmmm...i just dont remember that part in history. self hatred and being pinned up against a wall can make one crazy as we can see.

The kind of talk that really fuel hatred. So even the Kikuyus killing each other in Central province its Raila who is telling them to do that. Your man will go down history as the worst 'leader' Kenya ever had. Nothing seems to be going on what with corruption, crime, hunger , tribalism is. If we are blind then you are blinder or even blindest living in a tribal cacoon. I am sure you next meal today will come from Kibaki. i do not care who is the president as long as systems are running

Are you sure of what you are saying. Do not be blinded by tribal affiliation. If you read the Waki Report its online on the Standard you will clearly see that each side is to blame. I was in Eldoret and where I was living I saw Kikuyu men armed with crude weapons chasing away people even before the election results were announced. I wonder if Mr Odinga did sent them. Secondly, a lot of Luos were killed in Kisumu by police again its Mr. Ondinga isnt it? I am sure the really sinner will be known

It is sad to see that our young black men hate themselves and their brothers so much that they are willing to take each others lives just over the exchange of ideas. Dont get it wrong my brothers all over the world we here in America are doing the same thing, we kill each other over things and ideas that are not our own. How much must we hate ourselves to take up a weapon and brutally kill a brother. WOW the MASTER did his job and made us slaves and his hired KILLERS

Very true Rupie68. What happened was very shocking to see.I would hate to see my country end up like some other nations. Kibaki or Odinga it doesn't matter who's president they're politicians and are always going to do what is good for them not the peoples.

odinga is tribalism, greadiness, and he should be ashamed whenever he is...people lost thier lifes, homes they have lived for years, children, loved ones,jobs...is that normal?the blod he caused to be shed just coz the people were payed 200 kenya shillings to go kil? the blodd is cryinmg and calling for revenge unless odinga repents, and admit he did wrong.since kibaki was elected president,we have seen alot of changes in kenya.only fools or blind can say kibaki have done no changes

The origins of man are the same for everyone but in history there are those who invented the fire and who is not, some people have learned to build and who does not, there are those who put in motion the brain and who does not. Man has created its own destiny by themselves.Africans love to stay that way.
