Well, you probably missed the point where hiphop expanded all over the world and is now not reserved to only "descendents of former slaves in the USA". I don't mean to be a filthy racist, but that's a fact, Hiphop has spread worldwide and now can't be define as being specifically american. Would be as stupid as saying that white Americans "are" European cause long ago their ancestors came from there. The link to the root had been cut long ago, so did the things go with Hiphop.

you dont know much about hip hop and its origins obviouslyits been multicultural since its start, and its worldwide growth started early on, in the early 80s in japan when wildstyle first turned up and influenced dj krush and othersthere are several good books about it, i suggest 'cant stop wont stop'

well it's like asking the average american kid, like a frat boy or something if they know who "people under the stairs" are. The thing about the japanese underground hip hop scene is that it is REALLY underground. Anything drug related is very taboo, like you say -much more than america, but that doesnt mean it doesnt exist. Every time i'm backstage at a hip hop show it's everywhere. If you ask a jpnese person who's into hip hop though they will know krush guaranteed

I just wonder why every Japanese kid I have met has never heard of Krush let alone the MC's he has put on. It must be very underground. Michael Phelps is hardly ostracized, just lost some advertising dough. our last three presidents admitted smoking pot. America is def a more open society; it goes way beyond drugs . You must understand what I'm talking about ?It's why rap is so underground there. japan has some of the best breakers and DJ's in the world though. I meant no offence. sorry

There is a big difference between the old people that like sumo and the japanese underground hip-hop scene. Michael phelps was also ostracized for smoking weed in the US. I just take stuff like that personally because members of future shock, legendary inc, MSC, are my close friends.

I love Krush I like Kan,Inden, and all the other rappers I have heard featured on all of Krushes CD's which I own. I have no beef with Japanese rappers, I just don't think the culture is ready for it, by all the Japanese students I have met rocked with culture shock in the suburbs( forget brooklyn), by the stories I read about sumo wrestlers being ostrisized by society because they smoke pot. after hearing J-pop, lil wayne doesn't sound so commercial after all.

no you stupid fuck, YOU are missing the point. Do you see kan trying to dress like an american thug? no, and speaking of which kan is one of the most dangerous motherfuckers you will ever meet-from the back alleys of shinjuku pushing heroin and LSD. He does not wear "hip hop" esque "clothes". He has REAL depth in his lyrics. there are copyers everywhere in the world, there are real emcees in japan and there are fake ones who are in it for the fashion, but the same goes for america.

you are totally missing my point. you are only calling it "hip hop" because of the beats, because of the clothing, because he is rapping and not signing other than that, there is no connection. Hip hop is an American culture born from first slavery, then inner city poverty and drugs. you might not like that but it's the truth.

yeah, not acting high and mighty- my point is that when you don't understand the lyrics- which are often much deeper than most bullshit american songs you can't judge anything. i completely agree that hip hop isn't waving your hands around and wearing your hat sideways-which is why i support REAL emcees like kan.Smoking weed does not make you "hip hop" either, in fact it oftenmakes you someone who blindly supports drug wars in mexico that kill children and ruin lives.Hip hop is about being YOU

I didn't say it has to be any way, it's just the way it is. your not the first or only American to learn japanese, or learn about japaese culture so don't act so high and mighty.most Japanese regard weed smokers the way people do child molesters in America and your telling me they understand hip hop culture? hip hop doesn't mean waving your hands around and wearing your hat sideways, like I said before it's just superficial pantomiming.

No. It's the people that say "hip hop HAS TO BE THIS WAY" that are the ignorant ones. It's people that claim that an entire group of people as a whole will never understand something before taking the time to learn their language or have any idea what they say in their songs are the ignorant ones.hip hop is now a world-wide culture and that's the truth.

If you are so well informed what makes you think you can define what hip-hop is?"real music from the heart about real topics?" that's very sweet that you see it that way but hip hop is something much more specific than that. wag your finger all you want but you sound ignorant to me.

that's bullshit-there are some rappers in japan that understand hip hop culture better than most americans. Hip hop = real music from the heart about real topics. Kan understands that. I understand japanese and have interviewed some of the top japanese artists and they are so much more real than all of the bullshit pop rappers in america- please stop the ignorant comments.

wow you japanese (as a whole) will never understand hip hop culture, you can try to copy it in the most superficial ways, but japan seems to have a real problem with weed smoking.
