@ksunon yeah, lets trash that minimum wage and any form that give employees power within the company they work, lets leave it up to corporations to do the right thing by their countrymen. we should just all do slave labor for pennies and live in work camps, huzzah for the middle class.i doubt the film is just targeting wal-mart, its the whole system of what people expect in price vs reality; along with outsourcing we sold out our middle class.

anyone working in terrible conditions for next to nothing is bad, so it has nothing to dow ith child labour, child labour should be legalized.

The countries that engage in this now are not industrializing; they are so focused on cheap labor that they will not industrialize. Repression of labor is necessary to industrialize (shutting down strikes) but child labor and slavery is not. The countries that engage in it now are going to be stuck where they are unless they start focusing less on cheap labor and more on exporting using strategically supported domestic industries.

So are you saying that child labor and slavery is necessary to industrialize? First of all, that is incorrect. Germany and the East Asian NICs both spring to mind, they industrialized through banks and state led initiatives. England and America are probably the only countries that successfully industrialized and used extensive child labor/slavery (in the modern age~1800 onward), and they were anomalies - they were first and there was no such thing as a global economy as we know it today.

EVERYONE! this is an urgent message! Walmart is destroying the US economy and increasing the unemployment rate. What we should all do is boycott Walmart and use Target instead. Also, the greatest way to help is to elect a president who will tax foreign goods. ty

The alternative to child or youth labor in many poor countries is child prostitution to foreigners and subsistence farming. Some people would rather have children starve to death than take up a job that pays 10 fold more to feed themselves. America did the EXACT same thing 200 years ago to build up their industrial infrastructure. Its easy to point fingers when you're benefiting off the infrastructure built with the blood of men, women, slaves, and children of the Industrial Revolution.

Hmmm...sometimes. UNICEF tried to outlaw child labour in Iceland, but the children themselves revolted. They were mking good money as laboroers and shopkeepers. They weren't happy sitting around bored stiff. Eventually they forced the government to ingnore the UN standards. However, in the contewxt of the vid, yes, kids working in terrible conditions for next to nothing is wrong. Adults in those situations is just as wrong. It robs people of dignity.

It is not good because it is wrong and illegal. Illegal does not automatically mean something is bad. You have the reasoning skills of a child. I find your existence unnecessary.

If someone is a low-level employee at Walmart, it's not like their alternative would pay $100k per year.People who criticize Walmart are usually xenophobic protectionists, and/or lazy socialists. If a Chinese guy can do the job better than you for cheaper, why the hell should YOU get the job? If you want to argue that high employment standards make it impossible for Americans to compete, keep in mind that it was the unions and minimum wage that made it so.
