Most of my grandfather defended our country, the Philippines during WWII. Dad's father, lolo Peping served with the US 31ST Infantry Regiment, a regiment which the U.S. "claimed" to be an "all American" U.S. Army Regiment but my lolo is a pure blooded Filipino citizen who decided to stay and fight in Bataan, covered the retreat of his soldiers with a rifle fire and eventually got captured. Died with malaria in Camp after the Bataan Death March. He got a Bronze star, too less for his sacrifices.

check your history. Filipinos were fighting the spanish to gain independence when the u.s. decided to take the philippines for themselves resulting in the philippine-american war. the estimated deaths in the filipino army was 20,000 with civilian deaths from a quarter million to a million deaths. filipinos have paid for their independence many time over with blood to rid it of foreign occupation. they dont have to thank the u.s. for it
