@fritz190 look you obviously don't know that much about soccer. italy was clearly the best team in 2006. they played all solid teams and showed up to play every time. to get to the finals they beat germany IN BERLIN. and they won a nail-biter against france to become the 2006 world cup champions. for the 4th time and certainly not the last.

The reason? Might be tiredness of playing at the highest level for the whole season, pressure, and many things associated with the press nowadays...i mean, with all those statistics available, its easier to study spain than, say, north korea isnt it? Oh, and of course, there's England-the media's favourite.

personally, i dont think either spain or brazil gonna win next year. After all, how many countries win the world cup with star studded squad, espacially recently? Plus when they are the overwhelming favourites? Look: france 2002, brazil 2006, and not so long ago brazil 1998. The same might be happening to spain as well as brazil come 2010.
