To partially answer the question of ogirv101. In persons of Northern European Decent there is a high probability of having a 32 base pair deletion in the gene that codes for the CCR5 Receptor on the host cell. In this case these persons (who have both sets of DNA with the deletion) do have a higher resistance to the HIV virus.
