It has not the rigour of clasical interpretations, but it is by far the most emotional interpretation of caruso that I have ever heard. She gives some soul notes sometimes but i dont see the POP performace anywhere. I love this woman voice and her ability to transmit emotions. With no doubt this is a "summa cum laude" performance.

Here, where the sea shimmersAnd the wind gusts stronglyOn an old terraceIn front of the Gulf of SorrentoA man embraces a girlAfter she had criedThen clears his throat (lit: whitens his voice)And begins the song againI love you very muchSo much, so much, you knowIt is now a bondThat frees the blood inside the veins, you knowHe saw the lights in the middle of the seaThought of the nights there in AmericaBut they were only the fishermen's lampsAnd the white wake from a propeller

Caruso is a symbol of the any first generation of immigrants in America. That's why it's a classic.

@MichaelOstling1990 The song is saying how much Caruso is missing his country and how unpossible is this love.....

@MichaelOstling1990 Caruso was an italian immigrant (about 1919 ). He was a very good singer and he came to America to build his new life but he was not happy here.He fell in love in a girl who tooks a sing lessons from him and he wrote this song about his unpossible love...Caruso."The girl with the green eyes...."- it's a classic.......

the song is inspired by the last days of the italian tenor Enrico caruso who fell in love with a girl who was taking sing lessons from him in a hotel in Naples (where lucio dalla wrote this song)
