I love Steve. He could be on stage for an hour, tell 10 actual jokes and be hilarious the whole time

All of his jokes fell flat, he's as good an actor as he is at making people laugh

Ah, Bill Hicks was a different type of comic from Martin for sure, closer to Carlin than any of the one's we are discussing but edgier still. He was fairly famous actually. He died a few years ago. His clips are easy enough to find if you YouTube/Google around, though a lot of his really brilliant stuff is on CDs, not so much DVDs, there are some bits out there to watch.

Carlin's good, but I havent even heard of Bill Hicks... my Top 3 of the older guys are Steve Martin, Richard Pryor... and i guess Carlin

I think he, Carlin and Bill Hicks pretty much rule my top 3 - and Robin Williams, in the old days (fueled by coke, but funny nonetheless!)

WELL EXCUSEEEE ME!!! He has gotta be just about the greatest stand up comedian of all time. I would have said he was the greatest, but to be fair, theres also Seinfeld and a lot of other good people out there now, and its hard to pick!
