Neat idea you had for your kids. I was at Ft Sam in 1989, and we just visited San Antonio this past weekend. Yeah, a lot changes in 20 years, but I didn't realize just how much. The old Bravo 187 barracks look really worn down as does the Academy. A few barracks buildings were torn down and a gazebo-type structure went up. And, what happened to the running track? It just looks like a field of dirt. Weird to see it so changed. Guess that's life.

My pleasure. They were talking about closing Ft Sam down for a while, but built a bigger interservice hospital instead.

FYI, Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery has graves dating back to the Spanish-American War. That would explain the many headstones.

Ft Sam is a big inter-service operation now. The new hospital is huge! And to think they almost closed that historical fort!

Marquis, I am an Air Force Brat myself- born at Tyndall AFB in Florida. I had a chance to see Ft. Sam back in 1992. It was pretty cool from what little I got to see.
