if the oil industry didn't have the auto industry in thier pockets they would have been producing these vehicles a long time ago!

if the automotive industry wasn't in the pocket of big oil they would have produced such a diesel hybrid years ago

Well said! If diesel cars and trucks were to use their engines to generate electricity and power electric motors at the wheels instead of mechanically powering the drive wheels, they'd be off the charts in terms of fuel efficiency. The diesel/electric platform has been powering trains for 60 years; why cant it be scaled down? Jeep made a diesel/electric concept vehicle that got 110mpg. Big trucks would benefit tremendously from this platform. Just imagine the cost reduction in fuel consumption

the thing that people dont get, (most americans) is that, yes the price of diesel at the pump is more expensive then petrol but generally diesel engines prove to be 30 to 50 percent more efficient. so you pay more at the pump. but don't need to go back hardly as much.

Diesels are the superior design in terms of efficiency. Petrol engines require a spark for ignition, which creates hot and cold spots during ignition. Diesels fire the fuel into a cylinder full of hot/compressed air, whose pressure and temperature are consistent across the volume of the comnustion chamber. They also generate more torque at less rpm then petrol engines do, which allow the engines to operate under less stress.Diesel requires less refining; its higher cost is purely political

And those people who say Diesel is the most cost effective way of travelling it isnt.An AUDI 1.8TSFI, is less costly to run than the 2.0Tdi version if you do 22,000 miles or less per year, which is most people. This is because petrol is way cheaper, its cheaper to service, and the actual car is more cheaper. Not to mention, petrol is far more refined than Diesel.

If you would like an alternative fuel hybrid, then an LPG hybrid would prove far more sensible.LPG is the cleanest readily available fuel today, because it produces no nitrous oxide and is slightly cleaner than a diesel in carbon emissions.LPG is also half the price of diesel, therefore if you produced a hybrid LPG, you could make the cleanest fossil fuel vehicle with a decent fuel economy.

I'd just like to Comment, that Diesel engines are already economical enough. And when Emissions are concerned Petrol engines are now slightly cleaner if you take into account all the emissions.Petrols emite far less nitrous oxide particales, which create smog, ashmatic problems and a bad environment.Having a diesel hybrid would also be far more expensive, because diesels engines are already £1000-£2000 more to produce plus the added technology on a new hybrid system.

But you can make your own diesel.. you can't make your own gasoline.

That wouldn't be the case in Europe. I live in Switzerland and diesel is ridiculously more expensive than gas (about 20 cents more per liter). Diesel cars cost more, the diesel fuel itself costs way more than gas. Which means you will save money ONLY if you drive a LOT, and I do mean a LOT, like driving more than 100 miles a day. If not, you will take about 8 to 9 years to save money by driving a diesel car.

Yeah i agree, i have a HDI , normal diesel injection with a particel filter (not a hybrid )and already it saves 40 % compared to my gasoline car i had before and its the same modell. Thanks for watching.

Basically, this is the order of fuel efficient cars for current technology. Diesel hybrid>Diesel>Petrol Hybrid>petrolMy Diesel Full Size Dodge Ram gets ave. 25mpg. Diesel is the only way to go.

Yes, diesel and biodiesel, its suppost to cost around 29000 euro.
