I live in NH (Ed's home state) and have had the opportunity to see Ed play live quite a few times over the years. I still find it breathtaking how much emotion he can put into a song. What feeling!

This guy's got an excellent tone, it's probably the way he is picking at those strings.

I was fortunate to see Ed in concert a few years ago in Springfield Illinois. It was a quaint setting with maybe just 50 or so people. It was fabulous. It was something I won't forget.

Haha me too. Windham Hill has some sheet music out. Too bad it took me 13 yrs to get it. I actually played The Handing Down at a wedding and it was very nice. I really do love this player.

You're welcome. And BTW, no, this song doesn't have "funky tuning," although many of the others in the book do. If you get the book be prepared to tune your guitar a lot, and use a slide.

In case you still haven't located the tab for this, it's in a collection that has both tab and manuscript notation. It's called "Ed Gerhard: The Guitar Songbook (Book & CD) (Acoustic Masterclass)."

Yeah that was my first Gerhard song as well. But at that early age, I didn't think enough to learn his name or the name of the song. All I had was a somewhat tune in my head, and I spent years looking for the song and i just recently found it. I love his playing.

Damn i love this guy. I first heard "The Handing Down" when i was an early teenager - it made me want learn the guitar and i did - but Ed is something else. I often wonder what it would be like to be able to write and play like him.
