i said dragonfly not egg or nymph. Dragonflies (Order Odonata) definitely live more than 24 hours. Although the adults are relatively short-lived (usually no more than four weeks), the aquatic immatures (naiads) may live for up to three years before molting to the adult stage. Your friend may be mistaking them for mayflies (Order Ephemeroptera), in which the adults of some species do not live more than a day or so. I was just kidding about the 1 day thing.

FAIL!At the shortest, a dragonfly's life-cycle from egg to death of adult is about 6 months. Some of the larger dragonflies take 6 or 7 years! Most of this time is spent in the larval form, beneath the water surface, catching other invertebrates.

i remember time when i was a kid my friend and i were swimming in her pool and this dragonfly kept coming by the pool and scare the heck out of us, kept splashing it and it would keep coming back it and i couldn't take it i was getting freaked out i got out of the pool and ran all the way home and i didn't live next door, lol i was like maybe 12 or 13 houses down lol it was funny
