I met Djavan in Boston about 20 years ago--my "boyfriend" knew his manager. It was the best show ever. Latinos really know how to enjoy a concert. (God forbid you should sing at a James Taylor concert!) What a show this was! Later, I went backstage and Djavan, who hardly speaks a word of English, said to me, "Are you good?" (I think that translated to "How are you?") I said, "Great show!" Awesome!

outrodavi, if you want I will teach you Portuguese... :o) but there is something about being born there, living there, BEING there, that cannot be translated.

Brownboykb: Thanks for this live clip of this song. Just as in NY this song was being played everywhere in L.A. Cali, the beaches on Sunday, jazz festivals, all the radio stations a.m. and f.m. jazz. I agree with you, the translation version to English didn't work.

You need not know a single word he's saying to know exactly what he's saying. As haunting as it was when I heard it years ago.

I first went to Rio in 1987, and this was playing everywhere. It's the most beautiful song, isn't it?(The Manhattan Transfer recorded an English version called "So You Say" which is ridiculous, by the way.)

outradavi, his voice is so beautiful and pure and it stirs beautiful emotions in me, without understanding the words, like this one is a painful love...and music which is jazz but specifically Brazilian, which is special to me because it is fresh and different musically fom mainstream Australian music...I'm Australian...)

Alguem sabe se o Djavan já cantou com Milton Nascimento? Queria muito ouvir as duas vozes juntas.

One thing I really like about Djavan is his "jazzy" singing style, and his impeccable guitar playing. His melodies are exquisite, and his lyrics are very romantic and poetic...I listen to many kinds of music, and many Brazilian musicians are great, but Djavan is way up there with the "Angels". As with Mozart, it seems as if GOD Himself uses Djavan as HIS instrument to illuminate, inspire, and teach us new ways to love each other and to respect our Universe.
