Yes, he also sang in Any Which Way You Can ("Beers To You"), Honkytonk Man ("When I Sing About You", "No Sweeter Cheater Than You") and Bronco Billy ("Barroom Buddies"). He also composes music and plays the piano in almost all his movies including the title songs for Gran Torino, Flags of Our Fathers and Mystic River. The list would be too long for this space.

I love this movie! Who ever produced it knew a lot about the California gold rush. The costumes, how the saloons looked, and basic life of gold rush miners. Did you know the character Horace Tabor, the nerdy gold seeker from Wooster Massachussetts was based on a real person? He came from MA to the gold fields and later opened an opera house in Sacramento.

Is that really Clint singing that song from "Paint Your Wagon"? Or is it someone else doing a "voice-over"? I never knew he could sing.Bill

Also keep in mind that in the movie before "Dirty Harry," Eastwood starred in and directed "Play Misty for Me" (1971)where he plays a bohemian jazz disc jockey who reads poetry on the air.

You're welcome. I'd say that Eastwood tends to strain and go a bit off-key when he moves into an upper register, but as you said, he probably could have rectified that sort of problem with more work. By the way, Turner Classic Movies airs "Paint Your Wagon" from time to time (in wide-screen). And certainly, "Honkytonk Man" is a wonderful film, one that I wish more people were aware of.

I believe you're correct...and "Honkytonk Man" was a great film; one I haven't seen in many years...think I'll rent it! What's funny about listening to Clint sing is he can carry a tune...and even sounds pretty good...there's just a few places where you can hear he's a tad off-key. I think, if he'd been interested, he could easily have overcome that little problem. I haven't seen "Paint Your Wagon" in ages, either. I'll have to see that one again, too! Thanks! Red

Eastwood also fares better as a singer in "Honkytonk Man" (1982) which features some of his best work as both an actor and a director. Indeed, "Honktyonk Man" may be one of the most underrated films of the 1980s (the famous writer Norman Mailer loved it).

Just to be technical, the filmmaking took place in 1968, with the theatrical release occurring in October 1969. "Paint Your Wagon" then played in theaters for the rest of 1969 and for much of 1970.

Well, Dirty Harry does wear his hair on the long side. In the original 1971 film, his superior patronizingly inquires, "When the hell are you going to get a hair cut?"

Your "not bad, not good" comment does make sense. However, I think that Eastwood fares better in this film with the song "Gold Fever," where he's able to tap into a brooding, bittersweet, bluesy vein.

My sweetheart, Clint...he can do almost anything but sing...a stunning pianist, yes...a singer, no. I happen to know he hated doing the singing parts in this movie. He's not bad, but he's not good...if that makes sense! Thanks for the share, Ramey...I DO love my Clint! xxoo Red
