I have heard your theory before.I have checked out earlier bands that were heavy but i can't find one that I would say is heavier nor any that were ever that successful. The heaviest band I have heard of in that time frame, besides black sabbath is buffalo, still overall not as heavy and not very popular.Have you heard of the them, they are good, check them out on youtube.
