Bjorn isn't gay at all in real life and in this classic film. He's just pure, polite and kind and compassionate to Dirk Bogard in the film. And Visconti brought Bjorn to a total new level if anyone had watched Bjorn's first film "A Swedish Love Story". He's good in there but he's PERFECT in "Death in Venice". In addition to his 'Ideal Beauty' looks, he's a genuine talented young actor at that time.

For sure, if he was not, he was a great actor, since he was too young to embody all those delicate expressions. Who cares, he is wonderful for the same reasons:-)

I cannot help saying that Visconti was a genius, even if of course Bjorn Andresen was astonishing. However, only his mind and sensitiveness could see him this way and show it to the world. Moreover, he could make us feel the sense of contemplation of the beauty's purity that Mann conveyed in his characters. I cannot say if Bjorn was somehow gay , because here it is not important at all.
