there is perhaps no short term solution. Obama is considering giving another check for gas relief to middle income families, but that too is a gimmick. Still, eliminating the gas tax would have serious consequences in the budget for transportation, highways maintenance and would lose few thousand jobs... in other words it's not really a solution.

Yeah it gives a dollar per dollar credit which means our govt which is already broke pays for it through spending cuts or more likely deficit spending. It also artificially picks winner and loser. Winners probably equal families. As a single individual who pays more taxes than many families, I'm tired of seeing the govt hand out most of the tax benefits to people with children.
