more like no emotional or social common sense. common sense about many logical issues such as problem solving can be far superior than a NT's, hence the phrase geek syndrome.

it's hard to "stereo-type" Autism. Trust me. They are not *all* like in the movie RAIN MAN. Trust me! they're not.

not to sound cruel, but autistic people strike me as people with no common sense and social grace. the intellectual hardware is still functioning just fine.

I remember old school Mario Cart. I always had to be Yoshi. I have AS so I wonder if that's why.

They see a lack of empathy. I see enharmonic contiguity. These are different observations from different perspectives.I say this as I stand in the face of current convention, yet some day I may hear it as if someone else was as brave tostand against this grievous error.Every moment, offers us the same opportunity to see what has changed as well as what we might expect more clearly,if only we are willing, if not, as only as we are able.

I saw a beautiful and brilliant child, and now I see an autistic adult changing and reframing his perspectiveson the foolish and ignorant feelings sometimes projectedon him by those refusing dialog, but offering "answers".I saw a beautiful and brilliant child, but I was wrong. These are two different statements.(hind sight is 20/20)

At least the 1/90 ratio now makes more sense. I don't know that much about autism overseas, but if I don't come across stories here, I usually hear about them in Great Britain. It appears that they're doing more about autism than the U.S. is, even with its current rise to prominence in American media.

in the uk the statistics are much higher due to us being a small country i guess. But our government needs to do a lot more to Help.

You're right, it is on the increase and is the fastest growing developmental disability. However, it's believed that only 1.5 million Americans have autism. That's less than one percent of the U.S. population. The statistic becomes alarming when cost is brought up. Seven years ago, around $90 billion were spent on treating autism, 90% of that in adult services. Five years ago, the cost was projected to increase from $200-400 billion by 2013. That is the impact autism is making.

Are you related to ramgarjun? (j/k, lol)Like most disabilities, I think they're treated as such only because a small percentage of the population is affected by autism. If everyone was autistic, then there would be no problem.I don't worry about it, I just move forward.

autism is something really good, its not a disorder or something bad like that it is a changing world.there will come more and more autistics its not a illness or something its a logical reaction to the fast world, maybe you can compare it with a orcaan or terrorism of nature, you cant fight it let it be things will be fine trust nature AUTISM IS A GOOD THING AND USEFUL will see it later. first fight "against" it then accept.. oh well autism is positive and mother natures very logical reaction!

If you wish to blend in to a greater extent, you need to practice your blinking. You don't blink or shift your eyes enough. This can make regular folks feel uneasy as if speaking to a wide-eyed serial killer type.
