Shioda Sensei seems very charming. Even though I don't understand a thing he said, something about the way he projected himself makes me wanna learn Japanese just to understand this video.

To some reviewers: why are you so destructive? Maybe you are practing only destructive martial arts. The point here is: the essential is not visible. The point here is energy, not atemi.

Shioda sensei learnt Aiki Jutsu from Ueshiba sensei before the second world war NOT AikidoAiki Jutsu was neutered by Ueshiba sensei and change it from JUTSU to DO after WW2 so to conform with the huge cultural change in Japanese societyThat is why I nobody who learned under Ueshiba sensei after WW2 where nowhere near his abilities Shioda sensei had some of the pre-war good stuff and that is why he was so amazing but even he did not pass it on to the next generation

Master Shioda does blend with the attracker. Blending means mixing. Those who twist and turn prematurely are just running away from the attracker and don't work in a real situation.

I love the system of Yoshinkan Aikido, very structured and focuses on mechanics and why the techniques work. From the classes I took, the spiritual aspect just comes from practicing hard, no chanting or feeling each others "ki" or anything of that sort, I enjoyed it alot.

The irony in that statement is that Shioda is blending. The difference is that rather than letting the attack develop then blending with the full force of it, shioda is blending with the intent, before the attack develops any true strength. It looks tough and it is to a degree, but in reality the pressure he creates with his body weight makes the technique relativly effortless.

well just like Cacey0101 I like more the blending style of Ueshiba but what johnm543 says about Sensei Shioda been more military focus is also very true so i guess both of them complements each other, you know in some case you need to go more agresive like Shioda style...
