Geez, that's troublesome! I assume the same thing will happen to me then? What then should one do to overcome the difficulties when, as in my case, diet and exercise don't work?

@ekorre33 Same here. I tried herbal supplements, organic diet, running 3 days a week, I read books, participated on forums. None helped. For me ritalin did help a lot but like with many people, after the body builts up a tolerance it doesn't work as good anymore. So after a long while I just stopped taking it.

there is no basis to say that many kids are misdiagnosed. you do not have psychiatric training, you are just using judgments and opinions and saying something that cannot be back up even if it were true. there is no way to tell if kids are being misdiagnosed. psychiatrists know what they are doing and are not just handing out diagnoses. there is no validity to any comment about it being misdiagnosed or overdiagnosed or "too many kids on ritalin". there are no facts behind that. just opinions

That definitely is a possibly. Many kids have been misdiagnosed with ADHD simply because their teachers didn't want to deal with their behavior in school. The ADHD test isn't exactly black and white. What they gave me was more like a survey than an actual test.

I found that exercise, a healthy diet, good sleep, and a very healthy lifestyle did not help or lessen the symptoms of my adhd. I'm glad it worked for you but it did absolutely nothing for me. It's quite frustrating and hurtful when people prescribe this as the obvious cure for adhd when it clearly does nothing for alot of adhd sufferers. Please understand that it's not that we are lazy and are looking for an easy solution. Our suffering is real and exercise and diet isn't the answer for us.

It's good to be cautious with all meds, so I think your wise. As far as telling your family, I know what you mean, I found it liberating, although it was terrifying before I acutally did it. It was particularly difficult to tell my dad, but he's been nothing but supportive. He's very negative regarding all meds, but he does respect my decision regarding what I think is best for me. Good luck friend!

Weel, I'm going to try the medications, and for all I know right now I could end up needing them every day, but I would like to be able to limit it as much as possible that's all. But maybe I'm being scared away from them by people who don't believe adhd exists or people who are obsessed with so-called natural remedies and all that jazz. And no I'm definitely not a scientologist :-) anyways, my biggest worry is actually not the medicine, but how i'm going to explain all this to my family :-(

The medications are relatively safe and have few side effects. I did say the meds help some people, and did not say they help everyone. I don't understand people who refuse meds purely on principle, I hope you do well without meds, but I don't think you should refuse them solely for ideological reasons. That's what scientologists do, I don't mean to insult you by insinuating your one of those crazies. Good luck with your treatment!

@SaiNtFliPP and it makes us with the disease think that simply following the correct lifestyle is all we need to do, not that we have real brain problems, but its that we have the wrong lifestyle. that cunt

@xxSuperAsianxx if those things did it for you then congrats. but then you possibly didnt have adhd you had something else. and heart disease and adhd drugs are not correlated

Who am I? I'm someone who has ADHD, and has been through this medication crap. In the end I found out that exercise, diet and sleep had the most impact on my concentration. As for the heart disease, just do a simple google search you idiot. What do you think happens when your medication increases heart rate and blood pressure for long periods of time?

Nah, she just means the drugs won't work in the long run - and are dangerous! I've been told by a psychologist that I may have it, and I'm going to refuse any offers of medication and seek out wasy to manage the condition rather than depend on those. There's no cure to it anyway. Also, ADHD isn't all bad - loads of energy, ability to multitask, creativity... maybe the good aspects should be built on rather than the bad things be fought? :-)
